Our diagnostic suite
We use spectral-domain OCT for micron-level cross sections of the retina, OCT-Angiography to visualise blood flow without dye, and ultra-wide-field fundus imaging to detect peripheral pathology.

What does a medical retina specialist do?
A medical retina specialist manages diseases of the retina, macula and vitreous that do not usually require conventional surgery - diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration (both wet and dry AMD), retinal vein occlusions, central serous retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and inherited retinal dystrophies. Treatment relies on multi-modal imaging (OCT, OCT-A, fundus autofluorescence), intra-vitreal anti-VEGF and steroid injections, and retinal laser.

What to expect on your first retina consultation
Please plan for 90 minutes. Your pupils will be dilated (blurred near vision for 4-6 hours afterwards - arrange transport home). We will perform vision testing, slit-lamp examination, dilated indirect ophthalmoscopy and appropriate imaging (OCT and fundus photos). Dr. Shantanu will then walk you through your reports, explain the diagnosis in plain language and share printed treatment options with cost estimates.

Anti-VEGF injections, laser and diagnostic OCTs are covered by most major insurers and by Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY (within applicable ceilings). We facilitate cashless approvals for injections given in package mode. If you are diabetic, request the specific 'diabetic retinopathy screening' code from your insurer - it is nearly always reimbursable.
