General Ophthalmology
Comprehensive eye care for the whole family.
From refraction and dry eye to glaucoma screening and paediatric evaluation, our comprehensive eye service covers every routine need.
Comprehensive eye exam
A complete evaluation includes visual acuity, refraction, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, intraocular pressure, dilated fundus exam and — when needed — OCT and fields. We recommend one every year after the age of 40.
Comprehensive eye examination - what's included
A full eye examination at Shantanu Netralaya takes about 45 minutes and includes: vision testing at distance and near, autorefraction, manifest refraction (subjective glasses testing), slit-lamp biomicroscopy, intra-ocular pressure (IOP) measurement, dilated fundus examination, and - where indicated - OCT of the macula and optic nerve, corneal topography, and colour vision testing.
Refractive error and spectacles
Whether it is your first pair of glasses or a routine annual update, we perform a full manifest refraction - never just an autorefraction - to give you a prescription that is comfortable in real-world conditions. Progressive/multifocal, blue-light-filter and photochromic lens options are discussed based on your work and lifestyle.
Dry eye and computer vision syndrome
With growing screen exposure, dry eye is the most common outpatient diagnosis today. We assess tear quality, tear break-up time, and meibomian gland function. Management combines the 20-20-20 rule, preservative-free lubricants, warm compresses and lid hygiene, and - for more severe cases - punctal plugs, cyclosporine drops or IPL therapy.
Paediatric vision and myopia progression
Children should have their first refraction at age 3, and yearly thereafter. Rising myopia in Indian school children is a genuine concern - we assess axial length, prescribe atropine 0.01% drops where indicated, recommend 2 hours of outdoor daylight per day, and discuss dual-focus contact lenses for faster progressors.
Glaucoma screening
Everyone above 40 should have their IOP and optic-nerve head checked at least once every 2 years, and yearly if there is a family history of glaucoma. We screen with IOP, OCT of the nerve fibre layer, and - where indicated - visual field testing. Detected early, glaucoma is one of the most treatable eye diseases.
