Dr. Manisha Mishra's new book "Squint Simplified: A Complete Guide for Patients" is now available on Amazon — a plain-language reference for families navigating squint (strabismus), edited by Dr. Shantanu Kumar Gupta.
We are proud to announce that our clinic's paediatric-ophthalmology consultant, Dr. Manisha Mishra, has published a book — "Squint Simplified: A Complete Guide for Patients", now available on Amazon. It is edited by Dr. Shantanu Kumar Gupta.
You can view the book directly on our website: Squint Simplified — A Complete Guide for Patients, or order it on Amazon (ASIN B0HF1FMCB1).
Why we wrote this book
Every week in the outpatient clinic, we meet families who have been told three different things about squint by three different people — a school teacher, a well-meaning relative, and a WhatsApp forward. By the time they reach us, they are anxious and confused. The child, meanwhile, may be losing precious months of visual development.
This book is our attempt to help. It is written in plain, non-technical language, so anyone in the family can read it in an afternoon and walk into their consultation informed, not intimidated.
What's inside
- What squint (strabismus) is and why it happens
- How our two eyes normally work together
- The different types of squint — and why the type matters
- Signs and symptoms that should not be ignored
- Why timely evaluation matters, especially in children under 8
- What actually happens during a squint examination
- The role of glasses, patching, eye exercises, prism glasses and surgery
- What to expect before, during and after squint surgery
- Common myths — and the evidence-based facts that replace them
- Answers to the questions patients ask us most often in the clinic
Who this book is for
- Parents of a child with crossed eyes, wandering eyes, or a head tilt
- Adults living with squint, double vision or persistent eye strain
- Families evaluating squint surgery for a loved one
- Anyone who wants to understand strabismus without a medical textbook
A note from the editor
"Squint is one of the most common eye conditions we treat, yet it is one of the most misunderstood by patients. Dr. Manisha's clarity — sharpened over years of parent counselling in the OPD — is what makes this book different from anything else on the shelf. My role as editor was to preserve that clarity while keeping every chapter medically watertight." — Dr. Shantanu Kumar Gupta
